Story Recall Structure is hierarchical. General features (summaries) at higher levels. Setting. Theme. Plot. Goals, action toward goals, outomes. Subgoals, actions toward subgoals, outcomes. Resolution. Specific details at lowest level. Recall the role of hierarchical organization in  memory.

Hierarchical Story  Organization Buschke and Schaier (1979): Items related hierarchically are clustered together  in recall. Thorndyke (1977): More higher level story propositions remembered  than lower level propositions. Higher level propositions serve as cues for lower level  propositions, thus the latter are dependent on the former. The story structure reveals gaps in recall. There is no known limit to the length of a  story that can be recalled.
