November 16 What Makes a Situation ‘Moral’? - Come up with a ‘non moral’ situatoin and a ‘moral’ situation. o Stealing - What features distinguish the two?  o Evaluations of goodness and badness on moral situations and not on  non-moral situations - Dewey & Tufts (1908)     o Wrote a book about treatment for figuring out the difference between  moral and non-moral situations Voluntary, deliberated activity Intentional, something that the individual is self-aware, could be  good or bad still (helpful or harmful) Incompatib le outcomes of activity  What consitutes the moral/non-moral? o Ex. Wife sick/drug story – didn’t have enough money, druggist said no,  so he broke into the stores to steal the drug for his wife. Should Heinz have stolen the drug?  Yes, he’s saving his wife’s life.
