B) Summarizing the template information Presently, the climate of Peru varies from tropical in east to dry desert in west, and from temperate to arctic in the Andes Mountains. At the coast, there is a variety of succulent plants, grasses and shrubs. The Andes vegetation ranges from that of high mountain deserts to temperate forests, shrubs and elfin woodlands. Wet savannas and evergreen forests occur in the interior lands. Cultivatable areas and crops constitute only a small part of Peru, leaving 96.65% for pastures, woodlands and built-on areas. Peruvian economic performance mainly depends on minerals and metals processing, also fishing; the workforce majorly operates in the services (70.3%) and industry (21.2%) sectors. (107 words) According to CGCM, CSIRO and MIROC models, the climate of Peru can change quite noticeably towards the end of this century. The average temperatures in January can rise by up to 3.4C, those in July by up to 4.4C, while the annual-mean can go up by 4.0C. The maximum possible averages might climb up by the critical 4.5C, as illustrated by the MIROC model. The soil moisture predictions are relatively consistent among the three - one can expect it to be much drier throughout the year. Lastly, modelled precipitation patterns suggest annual changes of +0.47 mm/day in areas with high rainfall, -0.14 mm/day in drier places. (106 words) 2. A) The impacts of climate change At the time present, it would be hard to underestimate the effects of climate change on Peru, one of the countries where this human-intensified process has already left a very prominent mark. As projected by the above GCM models, at the end of the century there may follow an annual temperature increase of ~4.0C, which is enough to drive extinction of 21%-52% of species and result in a major loss of tropical rainforests in the region, while also jeopardizing the biodiversity of the region ( Mann, 119 ).
