Lab Manual Chapter 3 – Muscle Information For the exam, you should be able to identify every muscle on the Cadaver List on both the cadavers and models, as well as their actions (functions). For most muscles on the cadaver list, students are also required to know the attachment points (origin and insertion). This list of attachment points and actions is at the level of detail that you need to know for the exam; you are welcome but not required to learn the longer versions in your textbook. ANTERIOR MUSCLES Muscle Attachments Action Muscles that move the shoulder Pectoralis minor O: ribs 3-5 I: coracoid process of scapula pulls scapula anteriorly Serratus anterior O: upper 9 ribs I: vertebral border of scapula protracts scapula; with rhomboids, holds the scapula against the ribs Muscles that move the arm (humerus) Pectoralis major O: clavicle, sternum I: greater tubercle of humerus flexes, adducts, and rotates arm medially Coracobrachialis O: coracoid process of scapula I: medial surface of humerus flexes and adducts
