The goal of this assignment is for students to become familiar with the Human Genome Project, its benefits, its drawbacks, and its implications for disease prevention. Students will also be introduced to some of the ethical issues surrounding future applications of genomic medicine. This exercise will entail reading three articles and writing a short essay on their views about the topic at hand. In completing this assignment, students will: (a) be familiarized with the Human Genome Project. (b) critically evaluate the advances in genomic medicine for disease diagnosis, monitoring and prevention purposes. (c) be familiarized with the future of molecular medicine. (d) discuss their views on the topic by writing a persuasive essay. Learning Goals Specifically, upon completing this assignment, students will be able to: (a) explain the importance of the Human Genome Project. (b) describe the applications of the information provided by the Human Genome Project. (c) define genomics. (d) explain the role of ethics in genomic studies. Write an essay (~450 words) that defends your position on the importance of the Human Genome Project? Was the investment worth it?
