Biology AP Lab. # 2 “Enzyme Catalysis” Acids, Bases, and, buffers (students test different substances to see how acidic, basic they are. Also how they react to change in pH). UNIT 2 (A). THE CELL AND CELL TRANSPORT. Chapters: 7, 8, 11 (2 weeks) Cell, Cell membrane, Transport, and, Cell communication Discuss Prokaryotic Cell, Eukaryotic Cell, Cell structure and Function. Discuss Cell Membrane structure and Function. Cell Communication and Signal Transduction Pathways. Labs / Demonstration: Use of Microscope using letter ‘e’, cheek cell, onion cell, Elodea. Difference between Prokaryotic cell and Eukaryotic cell using slides. Examine Protists: Amoeba, Euglena, Volvox, Paramecium. AP Lab. # 1 Diffusion and Osmosis. Build your cell membrane: students will use recyclable material to build cell membrane. Properties of water: Drop formation on wax paper vs. news paper, capillary action demonstration. UNIT 2 (B): CELL RESPIRATION AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
