Chapter 8 Yakking about Progressivism Where have we been? • Lincoln – lots of presidential power • Johnson – Congress starts eroding power • Johnson through McKinley: We go through the Reconstruction period and the Gilded Age We go into the nadir period of presidential power. • Parties are important… I glazed over the parties. There are A LOT of small but important parties in this period, but we didn’t go over them • Socially, the country is going through a lot of changes We’re moving into the Progressive Era
