DEQSolutions Inc. Engineering Exemplified  Introduction This report discusses basic requirements and limitations, design, fabrication and testing process of a Mini-car project. The objective of this design project is to design a mechanism that transports a full 2 little pop bottle to the furthest. The problem statement states a set of design constraints that must be met in order to qualify for the competition. These design constrains are list as follows: Limitations on Power source: The power used to drive the mechanism is supplied by electric motor for ten second only. It is not allowed to use any other power source. Modification is not allowed to the given motor. The motor will be power with 12 volts DC at 6A. Limitation on Structure: The structure of the mechanism must be built entirely of plastic bottle, pop cans and elastic bands. Wooden components can be used for pulley and shafts. Epoxy resin string/rope screws nuts and bolts and washers can be used to join components together. There is no restriction on wheels 1 Goal Statement To design a mechanism that is powered by 273-255 electric motor to transport 2 liters pop bottle for more than 2 meters. This design will involve designing timing circuit to time a power supply for 10 second or less. The mechanism will be built from elastic band and pop can and plastic bottle. Engineering Exemplified  3 Research and Analysis of existing condition In order to achieve our goal while fulfilling the design requirements, a thorough research and analysis had been made on the existing condition as well as different possible concepts to apply. Researching the existing condition cover a broad area including properties of the materials that we are allowed to use, the characteristics of the motor (torque and speed characteristics – see appendix), and components of electric circuit to use to built the timer circuit. The investigation and analysis on these existing conditions were a very essential step in generating conceptual designs that fulfills the following basic conditions: Physical consideration Light weight : reducing the weight of the mechanism is one of the targets to move the load the furthest. Less weight imply less inertial, thus the car can easily and quickly accelerate. The friction force at contact between the wheels and the surface is directly proportional with the weight. Less friction
