Mean Length and mean width of Paramecium i. Mean Length= 17.25 + 15.01 + 19.15 + 17.50 + 20.25 = 89.16 / 5 = 17.83 r.u. ii. Mean Width= 7.15 + 5.11 + 5.21 + 5.50 + 7.25 = 30.22 / 5 = 6.04 r.u. b. Standard Deviation i. STDEV of length= 1.99 r.u. ii. STDEV of width= 1.07 r.u. c. 95% confidence level i. Length= 17.83 r.u. + 3.98 r.u. ii. Width= 6.04 r.u. + 2.14 r.u. 2. Volume of Paramecium a. Volume of a cone = ( πr2 h )/3 r= average width / 2= 6.04r.u./2= 3.02 r.u. h= average length= 17.83 r.u. V= ( π x 9.12 x 17.83) /3 = 170.28 (r.u.)^3 b. I choose the formula to a cone because the specimen is 3D so the volume of a rectangle would be too much, and the volume of a cone would be just right. 3. Surface area of Paramecium
