Problem 1 (a) How are entropy and heat related to each other? (b) What is the third law of thermodynamics. (c) What is Molecular Dynamics ? (d) What are canonical/natural variables? (e) What is a phase? Problem 2 We have a closed system containing a gas obeying the following equation of state pV = NRT + C . (a) Calculate the work necessary to increase the volume from V to V + Δ V (reversible process, constant T ). (b) How do internal energy, entropy, Helmholtz free energy and Gibbs free energy change in part (a) if T is kept constant. (c) How do internal energy, entropy, Helmholtz free energy and Gibbs free energy
