The Silk Road Discussion Question: "Have you ever heard of the Silk Road? Well did you know it was neither an actual road nor was it made of silk? It did, however, change the world. In fact, the impact of the Silk Road is still felt today." By now, your fam and buddies have stopped eating and simply look at you with anticipation. You then explain what you mean. You begin with "Well, you see, the Silk Road ..... " Silk Road Response #1: The Silk Road was a network of multiple trade routes that used the common language of commerce to connect the world's major settlements and was pivotal in pre-modern world history and cultural development. In fact, Christopher Becker asserts that the Silk Road was where the world's most advanced civilization in the sciences, mathematics, medicine, law, and art were spun. (Beckwith 2013). Silk Road got its name from the profitable trade in silk beginning during the Han Dynasty (207 BCE – 220 CE). It also refers to the global and the seafaring routes that connected Asia and Europe.
