Eliminate insoluble solids. Possible Chemicals in Sample B: Cations: Na+,K+, NH4+, Ca2+, Mg(OH2)62+, Al(OH2 )63+ Anions: Cl-, NO3-, SO42-, HSO4-, OH-, CO32-, HCO3Insoluble Compounds: Ca(OH2)2, CaSO42H2O, CaCO3, MgCO3, Mg(OH)2 Alums: Na[Al(OH2)6](SO4)26H2O, K[Al(OH2)6](SO4)26H2O, NH4[Al(OH2)6](SO4)2H2O Mix with deionized water, centrifuge, and separate. 1. Sample Description: Color Crystal Shape Odor Phase Homogenize unknown if mixture 2. Prepare Solution: Dissolve about half the sample in 10mL of deionized water. 3. Flame Test: Heat nichrome wire loop. If the wire produces a color, dip the loop in 16M HONO2 and rinse with deionized water to remove impurities. Yellow Flame: Na+ present Purple Flame: K+ possibly present Red Flame: Ca2+ possibly present No color: Na+,
