Format for Laboratory Assignments All labs should be typed in 12 pt., Times New Roman font, double spaced with one inch margins at all four sides. To change the page set up of your lab go to File, Page Setup, Margins, and set all margins to 1.00 inches. APA format should be used throughout your report. Cover Page This should include the title of the laboratory, the lab number, your name, the day and time your lab meets, the University of Illinois, the department, and the date you are submitting the lab. All should be centered both vertically and horizontally on the page. Purpose Give the rationale for doing the lab or why the lab is important. The purpose of the lab should be explained in detail here. You may use the lab handout as a guide, but DO NOT copy the text word for word. Provide a hypothesis that states what should happen and why. Use references as necessary. Methods A complete description of the subject(s), tests, protocols, and methods or data collection should be included. Equipment and materials used should be discussed as well. You may use subheadings for different measures. If statistical procedures are used, describe them. The goal of this section is to provide enough information so that someone who has your lab report could repeat the experiment based on your methods. Results
