Study Guide The Moffett Component of third mid term will focus primarily on air pollution, climate change and science policy. Keep in mind that some of the material I covered on the December 3 lecture was covered in more detail Oct 22 (Chapter 20). Basically, the Dec 3 lecture was a continuation of the Oct 22 one. So I recommend that you look at that lecture carefully as well. Key questions and concepts This list is not all – inclusive; you should still rely on lecture notes. But it covers most of the important concepts. Define air pollution, and secondary and primary contaminants. What is the connection between air pollution and acid rain? (Hint: what are the primary and secondary pollutants involved?) Learn the major air pollutant categories, including nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, ozone volatile organic compounds and airborne particles. Know which of these are most important for human health versus adverse impacts on the environment. Remember the “LA-centric issues” like diesel soot – its sources, the most dangerous places to live and so
