The Need for a Code of Ethics 2 To: Cecil Goodrich, Owner From: Wendy Eller, Assistant Manager Date: December 06, 2009 Subject: Solutions to Ethical Issues My research into a Code of Ethics has proven to be both interesting and beneficial in my search for things to help improve our company’s ethical issues. I have prepared a report for you to review concerning this matter. I will enclose it with this memo for your review and approval to go ahead and begin the creation of our new Code of Ethics. After reviewing my report, should you find any information lacking or would like to make any suggestions to the content, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. I will be ready to make any necessary changes and research any further information concerning a Code of Ethics.

The Need for a Code of Ethics 3 Additionally, should you have any concerns about how our company will go about creating this Code of Ethics, I would be happy to exist in doing so. Cc: All Department Managers Over the past ten years, there has been a dramatic increase in the ethical expectations of businesses. Customers, clients and even employees are deliberately seeking out companies who actually define the ground rules for their day to day operations. (Ethics Web, Year Unknown) However, in our company today, our employees are constantly acting very unethically in their business practices. On a daily basis, they are lying, stealing, cheating, harassing each other mentally and sexually and using their positions for more personal gain instead of for our company’s goals and profits.

The Need for a Code of Ethics 4 We must take action ourselves to define ground rules for our company’s employees. Other companies establish this by putting into place a written code of ethics. At this time, I’d like to suggest and propose that our own company create, implement and enforce a written code of ethics for our own employees to adhere to daily in their business practices.
