Problem set 7 Due 11am Friday, 13 Nov. 1) [ 8 points] This problem deals with various Lac-operons placed within a cell. For each bacterial genotype, state if Lac Z occurs in absence and/or in the presence of Lactose. For example for the wild-type operon no Lactose Lactose Lac Z - + For each case, state WHY you obtained the two Lac-z phenotypes. a) LacI - LacP + LacO + LacZ + / LacI + LacP + LacO + LacZ - no Lactose Lactose Lac Z - + The functional LacI is trans-active and can control the other operon with the function Lac Z gene. b) LacI - LacP + LacO C LacZ - / LacI - LacP + LacO + LacZ + no Lactose Lactose Lac Z + + A functional Lac Z gene is present, but there is no functional Lac I repressor.
