Election of 1800 Was decided by the house of representatives Thomas Jefferson was the President by 1801 This marked the defeat of the federalists and is a turning point for policies. Once he came upon his 2 nd term it was fraught with failure and problems once war broke out in Europe The war of 1812 The War of 1812 British and French begin to attack American battle ships (before the war) Jefferson had recently retired most of the American army, it wasn’t until the attacks on the nation’s ships that he started to use the militia to save the ships.
