Gases have neither definite volume nor shape. b) How does a liquid differ from a gas? Liquids have definite volume, but no definite shape. Gases no definite volume or shape. c) How is liquid similar to gas? They both have no definite shape. d) What is plasma? Plasma is matter with very high energy that loses electrons. 13. What is meant by a change in state? A change in state is a change in the state of matter (solid, liquid, gas) that does not affect the identity of the substance. 14. What is the significance of the vertical columns in the periodic table? What is the significance of the horizontal rows? Elements in the same vertical row have similar chemical properties.
