Joseph Sperber Matt Garite 9/15/09 Writing 102 T/R 11- 1220 Planet of Slums The Industrial revolution first began in the late 18 th century in London, England. Along with the industrial revolution came the urbanization movement in which people moved from farms to cities and suburbs. In most countries the slums were located outside of the cities and in the farmlands. Now as time moves on people have continued to move to cities and urbanize. The cities now are now not as prosperous and full of job opportunities as they once were. In his book Planet of Slums Mike Davis discusses the over abundance of slums around the world, specifically in Asia and Africa and how there are more slums in the cities then ever before. In the excerpt of Mike Davis’s book Planet of Slums he describes the conditions of many various cities in areas such as Asia, and Africa. Mike Davis writing is very persuasive and he fills each part of the text with his passion for trying to make this point abundantly clear that the cities are becoming slums and that there are more slums in the world then
