Marc Pomi 106040098 Physics 134 Lab Section 01 02/09/2009 Lab #2 Electric Field Introduction: In this experiment we use carbonized paper to determine two dimensional electric field lines by drawing lines normal to the equi-potential lines. Procedure: 1. Using the parallel plate sheet connect one terminal of the battery to each plate. 2. Connect the dry cell battery to the plate utilizing the wires provided. 3. Place the stationary probe on a segment of the paper and use the second probe to find voltages of 0. We use voltages of 0 because these are equal in potential and easier to find then using another value. Proceed to repeat this for four to five points. 4. Move the stationary probe to another place and repeat step 3. Do this for at least four lines. 5. Connect the line made by finding the points by which the voltages were 0. 6. Sketch lines normal or perpendicular to the equi-potential lines and these are your electric field lines.
