HD-DVD VS BLU-RAY 2 HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray Introduction The high-stakes battle of movie discs between Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD can be trailed back to the year 2000 when corporations started experimenting with the use of new blue lasers inside optical disc systems. Since the blue light’s wavelength is shorter compared to that of the red lasers utilized in the DVD, minimal physical space is required to record all data bits, and so more data may be crammed onto DVD-sized discs. The extra space was needed for storing the new high-definition TV and video services, which were beginning to be customized during that time. However, what started in the year 2000 as a technical study became a war between the world’s leading movie studios and electronics companies, with the customer caught at the center (Kothenschulte & Stapelkamp, 2014). This paper aims to explore the differences between HD-DVDs and DVDs as well as what transpired in the battle between Blue-ray and HD-DVD. The essay will as well offer an overview of the companies, which have promoted and developed each format while examining the benefits and drawbacks of every form. Moreover, the paper will explain whether Blue-ray disc was the best choice over HD-DVD technologically, and assess the processing hardware requisites for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD while outlining the comparisons of each. A brief overview of the organizations have developed and promoted format Between 2003 and 2008, Toshiba and Sony (among the leading electronics manufacturing corporations) instigated a high-definition battle for dominance over the next-generation form of videos. Blu-ray was the technology of Sony, and it had the backing of a group, which included Hitachi, Philips, and Matsushita, among others. On the other hand, the technology of Toshiba was HD-DVD, which was supported by DVD Forum, and this made it the official DVD format
