CSE412/598 Midterm Page 1 CSE 412/598 Database Management System Midterm Exam Fall 2008 NAME SECTION: 412/598 (please mark one) Note that if your answer to a question x depends on your answer to a question y, it will be graded independently, so that you can get full credits on x even if your answer to y is wrong. Question 1 (ER Diagram) [35 pts]. Consider that the officials in airport have decided to organize the information related to the airport in a DBMS and you have been hired to design the database. The relevant information is as follows: * Every airplane has a unique registration number and is of a specific model. * Each model is identified by a model number, and has a capacity and a weight. * A number of technicians work at the airport. You need to store the name, address (street, city, state, zip code), phone number and salary of each technician. * Each technician is an expert on one or more plane model(s), and his or her expertise may overlap with that of other technicians. * A technician is an airport employee, belonging to a union. You must store the union membership number of each employee. Each employee is uniquely identified by the SSN. * The airport has a number of tests that are used periodically to ensure that the planes are still airworthy. Each test has a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test number, and a name. Each test could be taken by zero or more planes, and each plane could take zero or more tests. * For each testing event (i.e. a specific airplane takes a specific test at specific date), we need to record the date, the number of hours doing the test, the score the airplane received on the test. Assume that each airplane takes a specific test at most once a day. a. [17pt] Below is a partial ER diagram of the above application, consisting of all the entities and their key attributes. Please complete the diagram by including other attributes and capturing all the relationships among the entities. Be sure to indicate all structural constraints.
