Unformatted text preview: Using the knowledge you have learned in the class, briefly evaluate the article entitled Successful Generation of Donor Specific Hematopoietic Stem Cell Lines From Co-Cultured Bone Marrow With Human Embryonic Stem Cell Line: A New Methodology. Please read TITLE, ABSTRACT and RESULT carefully. The results of this paper do not support its claim shown in the title. Generation of hematopoietic stem cells from hESCs remains a big challenge. Conclusive results have not been achieved in the field thus far. The title of hematpoietic stem cells is a wrong claim. Authors only showed hematopoietic progenitor data. Only in vivo transplantation model can examine hematopoietic stem cells (>6 weeks with lymphoid, myeloid, erythoid lineages). Authors do not understand the difference concepts between hematopoietic progenitor and stem cells. Molecular cell surface markers are not enough to prove pluripotency. Pluripotency of hESCs should be examined by (1) teratoma formation in vivo, and (2) capacity to generate three germ layer tissues in...
