Transcriptional control CIS - elements Promoter CIS control of transcription Promoter elements (1) TATA box (-30) TATTAAA basal level of transcription (2) Promoter proximal elements: CAAT box (-100) GC box (-200) GGGCGG Binding of transcription factors to these cis elements increases the basal level of transcription (3) Distance-dependent elements (sometimes 50 kb away from the promoter) Enhancers (= upstream activating sequences ) UAS greatly increase transcription. They are often responsible for the tissue specific high gene expression.
