1. What laws should the United States add to protect and preserve security interests? 2. Should the U.S. close its detention center at Guantanamo Bay ("GITMO")? 3. How long should prisoners/detainees be held as prisoners of war when no one can (apparently) define when or how the war will end? 4. Should GITMO be closed and national security prisoners be moved to Leavenworth prison? 5. Should the public be allowed greater transparency as to the specific prisoners, the charges against them, if any, and military or interrogation activities at GITMO? 6. What rights do Guantanamo Bay detainees have? The topic of the rights of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay (a.k.a GITMO) and the detention facilities functions are very complex. Over the period of many years the sheer existence of the GITMO facility has itself created a black cloud over the international views of US Military operations. There are many factors that play a role in the discussion of GITMO and its detainees. Some of the factors that play a role are executive power, political intentions, patriotism, US constitutional rights and others. But despite all the different complexities of the circumstances, it should be clear that no innocent man should be punished or ill treated. Every human deserves to have human rights whether by law or by simple conscience. The CSPAN discussion along with Stephen Vladeck and Richard Samp demonstrates various sentiments of the issues from both sides. The ones who feel the protection provided by GITMO is necessary and the ones who feel that the detainees are being deprived of rights.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
