Andrei Grosu Literature ENG 210a Prof. Cohen The Black Spade Jack It was the end of the summer, when everybody got tired of working during the hot sunny days, and even the sun was exhausted of lightening the land of the golden wheat. The wind was blowing with a huge laziness and the silence was dominating the atmosphere of the nature. A silent night was about to come. In a small town near the city of Columbus, the few inhabitants were about to take their usual dinner and go to rest. No children could be seen on the streets, they were probably listening to their mothers stories, before going to bed. Only the “Lucky 13” bar and casino was opened in the central district of the town. It looked like it was about to close too. Only a strange man seemed to be in a rush. It was Mr. Jean Noire who lost his bus to Pittsburgh and was rushing to find some shelter overnight. He was sent by his manager to this undersized town to investigate the economic situation of the region, with the purpose to open a new business in the area.
