Kyle Daniele 1) What is literature? Literature is imagination at work. Anything that will captivate a reader now and will last to be read years from now is literature. To me it is a form of entertainment, from autobiographies to epics, as it is an escape from the happenings of today. For others, literature has moved many people even if it is thousands of years old. We explore the pages to find something we can relate to and see different perspectives of the world around us from other writers. It also can open up new thoughts that we never contemplated before. 2) What is not literature? Gossip magazines or newspapers in my mind do not classify as literature. The daily mundane activates of everyday life whether it is of a celebrity or not is trite. On some levels, they have qualities of literature like creativity. They too can also be engulfing, however, they do not stay with us as great novels do. With novels, you feel as if you achieved something by reading them. You retain something either by the novel’s themes or by certain
