deserved to be cared for. For over fifty years, she lovingly gave all her time to the ill and impoverished. She became a nun at the age of eighteen and journeyed to Calcutta, India to begin missionary work as a teacher. She soon moved her caring actions beyond the safety of the convent walls and founded the Missionaries of Charity, which tended to the poor, sick, and dying cast aside by society. Today, they still provide services for the needy, and Mother Teresa has become a revered figure around the world. Born in Serbia in 1910, she grew up within a family of devout Roman Catholics. This led her to join a religious group for girls and realized helping people is what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She gave up everything and never looked back.
