1ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIETY SOCIOLOGY 452/452L FALL 2009 OUTLINE Environment and Society provides an introduction to sociological and other social science approaches to understanding the relations between society and the biophysical environment. The course emphasizes the ways in which culture and social organization influence, and are influenced by, the relationships between society and environment. Throughout the course the roles of gender, mass media, technology and population are considered. The question that underlies the course is: what are the factors that affect the sustainability of a social formation, and what are the determinants of those factors. professor: Craig K.
