Shreya Maddireddy Nance 4 th 12.9.2009 Was United States Foreign Policy in the Early Ninteenth Century Imperialistic? YES James O’ Sullivan, the creator of the term, was an expansionist, a propagandist, and a War Hawk who majorly believed in expanding United States territory. However, he stated that people should not be subjected to it without their will, the government did do just that. If freedom was the goal of Manifest Destiny, then it does not explain the superiority many of the time period felt. Many felt that the people claiming the land that they wanted were inefficient, so they should go and take over for them. Only Americans know how to efficiently use land, right? It seemed that during this time period that the government was stretching for excuses of expansion. Manifest Destiny was a solely imperialistic technique implemented by American government in order to gain territory and economic profit. Outline:
