Cultural diversity, personal beliefs and values are examined in relation to health care decisions. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Analyze basic legal concepts relevant to the practice of professional nursing. 2. Describe selected theories for ethical decision-making. 3. Utilize a systematic decision-making approach to analyze ethical dilemmas in nursing practice. 4. Discuss accountability for clinical decision-making in situations with legal and ethical dilemmas. 5. Analyze the effect of cultural diversity and personal beliefs and values on health care decisions. 6. Evaluate case studies to determine the legal and ethical responsibilities of the professional nurse.
