Emphasis is placed on theories and principles which result in a foundation for critical thinking, application of research, and utilization of the nursing process as it relates to caring for children and families from diverse cultures and environments. There is also a focus on interventions and communication techniques appropriate to the developmental stage of the child. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Utilize nursing knowledge, theory, and research findings with knowledge from the humanities and science as a framework to discuss the nursing care of children. 2. Describe the current and future child health nursing roles, practices, and settings.

Apply the nursing process to analyze the dynamic health status of children within their family environment in community and hospital settings. 5. Describe the modifications needed to intervene and communicate techniques in order to provide health care to children of different physical growth and developmental stages in a variety of clinical settings. 6. Apply critical thinking to question assumptions, set priorities, problem solve options and evaluate outcomes in the analysis of health care management of children and their families. 7. Describe nursing management strategies for the health care problems of children and their families that include collaboration with other members of the health care team and utilization of community resources. 8. Discuss implications of research findings for health care management of children and families. 9.
