Oblasts, Krays, ASSR’s o Oblast was an administrative unit Significant national group o ASSR Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic Reorganized a significant minority nationality o Kray Administrative function but could contain: Autonomous blasts In order of importance: SSR ASSR A Oblast A. Okrug USSR Had 200 national groups at beginning of the USSR The following Soviet Socialist Republics do not contain political subdivisions at the oblast/kray/ ASSR level Latvian SSR Lithuania SSR Estonia SSR Armenia SSR The following Soviet Union Socialist Republics contain only oblasts, none of which contain an Autonomous Okrug. And therefore contain no politically recognized national groups. The number in brackets identifies the number of oblasts in the particular SSR
