Mussulini Fascist “March on Rome” German republic has survived o International recognition and prosperity up until the great depression o Beginning of something positive o 1924 the Germans are unable to pay their debts and see the rise in inflation o British and eventually the French begin to realize that Germany will need to support Germany and reestablish trade Dawes Plan o American devised plan to provide a loan to Germany through private American banks o US – Germany – Reparations to France and Britain – France and Britain use reparations to pay back US loans Treaty of Locarno (1925) o Representatives of 5 countries (France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Belgium) sign a major treaty (Most important treaty of the inter-war period) o Germany-French boundary and the German-Belgium boundaries are guaranteed o Britain and Italy would be the “cops” and supervise this agreement o The spirit of Locarno o Germany’s eastern front is not dealt with or decided upon (specifically the
