9 Tuesday, March 25, 2008 Warsaw Doenitz Zhukov Elbe river Polish Home Army Eisenhower Macarthur Nimitz New Guinea March 1945- Allies cross the Rhine river into Germany which did not happen in  WW1 Us president Roosevelt wants to make sure that Germany knows they have been  defeated Eisenhower starts to make plans for when the US/British Troops will meet the  Russian troops o So there is no international embarrassment Churchill wants to get as far east as possible. He desperately wants Berlin o He also fears Russian and communism o He sends Eisenhower a telegram about military decision Roosevelt sides with Eisenhower and a position is made o Allies will stop at the Elbe river o Military decision; not a proper political decision Warsaw(1944) Number of cities have uprising in the city as ally army gets close As the allied armies approach there is a uprising as the resistance and u get the city falling Not in Warsaw, which leads to political complications
