Air Pollution in HK h In 1989, air control zones were declared with a set of Air Quality Objectives (AQO). h The AQOs set target concentrations of air pollutants at levels consistent with international health standards. h Air Pollution Index (API): a measure of the aggregate level of four major regional air pollutants – sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and respirable suspended particulates. The higher the index value, the higher the overall level of pollution in the region h $2 billion to subsidize a package of measures to improve air quality and visibility. h Effected by the Air Pollution Control Ordinance .
