Sarah Ohlinger Professor Koness NFS 443 Lab 8 December 2009 Lab #10: Counseling For Dietary Change A: Sue is a 40 year old female who currently weighs 170lbs and is 5’6” tall. Her ideal body weight is 130lbs, which exceeds her ideal weight by 131%.A weight loss of 10-15lbs would be beneficial since she has a BMI of 28 (overweight). Her estimated caloric needs of 1950kcals were calculated using the Harris Benedict Equation. Sue currently has stage 1 hypertension (blood pressure of 140/92) and has been prescribed a Thiazide-type diuretic to control her blood pressure. Based upon the clients 24-hour recall, her diet is high in sodium, cholesterol and saturated fats due to an excessive intake of packaged and canned foods. Her diet lacks sufficient fluids, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low fat dairy. Sue’s total cholesterol is borderline high (202 mg/dl) as well as her LDL cholesterol (142 mg/dl). Her HDL (40mg/dl) TG (100 mg/dl) and fasting blood glucose (80 mg/dl) are all within normal levels. Her high blood pressure
