DB651 Basic Unix Commands For the purposes of the DB651 class, the following commands should provide the necessary information to successfully use Unix. This list is not meant to be exhaustive of what can be done within the Unix environment, but may be used as a quick reference for the most common commands for the work to be accomplished as part of the DB651 class. Command Used For Syntax pwd List current directory; tells where you currently are  in the Unix directory structure nova> pwd [ENTER] mkdir Create a new directory; adds a subdirectory  (another level) to your account. nova> mkdir  New Directory  [ENTER] cd Change directory; moves from the current  directory, to a different directory that is specified in  the command statement. nova> cd  destination directory  [ENTER] nova> cd . . [ENTER] {moves to parent directory} nova> cd  [ENTER] {moves to home directory}
