Chemistry 2A/A: General Chemistry F2008 Instructor: Professor Alexei Stuchebrukhov (stuchebr@chem.ucdavis.edu) Office Hours: Fri 11-12, 4-5, 163B Chemistry Bldg Head TA: Daniel Rios drios @ucdavis.edu Office Hours: Tuesday 11-12 PM, 1064 Science Lab Bldg TAs: 1064 Science Lab Bldg, 9-5 Mon-Thur; Office Hours of Individual TA’s will be posted on the course web page. TA mailboxes: In the hall outside Chemistry 149. Course Web Page available through: http://My.UCDavis.edu/ Prerequisite: Satisfactory scores on both the Chemistry Diagnostic Test and the Precalculus Qualifying Exam. You will be administratively dropped from Chemistry 2A if you didn’t pass the exams. (There will be one additional exam next week if you fail first time.) Additional information at: http://www.lsc.ucdavis.edu/diagnostic_exams.html Fees. Chemistry 2A has a Course Material Fee of $40. Student Accounting will bill you for this sometime after the drop-date. Students who are “Pell Grant” eligible and receiving financial aid are automatically exempt from this fee. Repeating students who are not retaking the lab are also exempt. Petitions: Petitions to request an exception to prerequisites or the course material fee are available at http://www-chem.ucdavis.edu/undergrad/ Exceptions are granted only in unusual circumstances. Required Materials: 1 • R. H. Petrucci, W. S. Harwood, F.G. Herring, General Chemistry, Principles and Modern Applications , 9th Ed. (Prentice Hall). 2 • Laboratory notebook with carbon pages. 3 Chemistry 2A Laboratory Manual and approved safety goggles will be provided free during the first laboratory meeting. Recommended Materials: 1 • D. J. Goss, Study Guide for General Chemistry, Principles and Modern Applications, 9th Ed. (Prentice Hall, 2006). 2 • L. Gelmini, R. W. Hilts, Selected Solutions Manual for General Chemistry, Principles and Modern Applications, 9th Ed. Course Content: Lectures . The lectures will cover Chapters 1-6 and 8-11 of the text by Petrucci, et al . You are responsible for all of this material, including any parts that may not be formally
