Page 1 24/12/2009 CP5520 Answer to Tutorial Week 11 23.2 Which account is designated as the owner of a relation? What privileges does the owner of a relation have? Answer: The account that is used when a relation is created is known as the owner account of that relation. The owner account is given all privileges of that relation (it is assigned by the DBA). 23.3 How is the view mechanism used as an authorization mechanism? Answer: Suppose that the owner of a relation wishes will grant a user to access only certain tuples of the relation. S/he can create a view hat contains those tuples and gives the access rights (using GRANT) to that user. 23.4 What is meant by granting a privilege? Answer: Granting a privilege means that the owner of a relation gives the access right (a part or all of his authority) on a relation to some other users. 23.5 What is meant by revoking a privilege? Answer: The grant privilege may be given for a period of time, and for various purposes. After this period, the owner can revoke the grant, i.e., to cancel the privilege.
