Definition Therapeutic communication is deliberately  structured to accomplish a given purpose.   There is usually a time limit, and the benefits of  the interaction are not mutual, but are to be  derived by the client. The client receives attention to his/her needs  so that s/he can be helped toward wellness. (Unless the HCP is also experiencing some benefit from the  interaction, motivation to stay in the helping relationship will be  reduced.)
