10-5-09 Advance directives 1976 first advanced directives law passed in California o Prior to this in the 19 50s and 60s there was a lot of discussion about euthanasia Texas passed it in 1977- plagerized from California There was a living will- a group of people who were part of the euthanasia society there was a guy who decided to document what he wanted to have done if he was not able to speak for himself what he would want to have done o It was an informal statement that said if im in a vegetative state don’t let me linger do something It was really vague Society for the right to die- lobbying wanted to change laws Concerned for dying was an educated group that wanted to educate people about how they could make life decisions The language in the living will was kind of vague Dear abbey thought that the living will was a great idea o Because of this, concerned for dying went from a tiny institution who was handing out living wills to a huge organization once dear abbey picked it up o The reason was, because people were thinking about it Carrey quinlin- mixed drugs with alcohol and she passed out and her heart stopped beating and she was technically dead for a while and revived
