1 Change in Ecosystems • Ecosystems are dynamic – If you filmed a field for 1, 10, 100, 1000, or even 1,000,000 years and watched the footage speeded up (time-lapse), you would see these changes • Why does it change? – Abiotic Factors Change – Biotic Factors Change Disturbances in Ecosystems “Natural” – Fire (grasslands, pine forests) – Flood – Windstorm, Hurricane – Drought – Biological - Disease, predation, grazing Anthropogenic – Deforestation – Erosion – Flooding due to water control or climate change – Drought due to climate change – Pollution killing organisms
