Week 4 assignment 1- Cultural Intelligence I do not think that high scores on an intelligence test indicates that one person is smarter than someone who scores lower, since scores are impacted by many different factors. One person may score lower due to physical and/or environmental distractions, such as being tired or repetitive noises outside the testing room. Culture can impact test taking skills and may better prepare someone for specific test questions. For example foster children may have delays when compared to peers raised with nurturing parents who have attended the same schools consistently. These children may be just as smart as their peers, but may have lower scores due to lack of exposure to item content. Western designed intelligence measures are used to measure subjects with a variety of cultural backgrounds. The Western measures do not adequately measure intelligence for non-Western subjects.
