Meiosis and Sexual Life Cycles Clone (asexual reproduction Syngame-fusion of gametes Crossing over, random segregation and random fertilization>variation Anaphase-Random Segregation and Independent Assortment Meiosis II-each daughter cell=haploid Eukaryote-mitosis or meiosis and Prokaryotes-binary fusion Chromosome=1 DNA molecule + attached proteins. II. Mendelian Genetics Mendel’s use of peas: small, easy, inexpensive, short gen time, true-breeding lines, large numbers for analysis Segregation (1 st Law)-gamete receives a pair of genes from each parent for each trait; zygote receives one allele from each parent. Independent Assortment (2 nd Law)-alleles of one trait are distributed to gametes independently of the alleles for the traits. Polygenic Inheritance-Alleles at more than one locus contribute to same trait (skin color and human height) Autosomal Recessive Inheritance-Both Parents are carriers. -Sickle Cell Anemia (Recessive Inheritance)
