The longstanding theme of tobacco ads targeted at women is: liberation and freedom. Also implying that smoking is sexy. Girls are told that smoking will not only keep them thin but also that cigarettes are a kind of beauty accessory. 5. The key reason people have been denied important information about the health effects of cigarettes and alcohol is: many people rely on the media for health information but there’s a tremendous amount of distortion and censorship on behalf of advertisers. 16.
