1. “Pre-quitters” are: what the tobacco industry refers to the 80% of people who want to quit. 2. Tobacco advertising plays into the fact that smokers feel increasingly marginalized these days and on average feel powerless in society by: often portraying the smoker as someone who is heroically resisting the conformist pressure of society. 3. The lung cancer rates of women over the past two decades has: (in the US) increased almost 400%, surpassing breast cancer as the leading cancer killer of women. 4. The longstanding theme of tobacco ads targeted at women is: liberation and freedom. Also implying that smoking is sexy. Girls are told that smoking will not only keep them thin but also that cigarettes are a kind of beauty accessory. 5. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
