Architecture and Society in England 1500-1760 Fall 2009 TTh 1:10-2:30 Dr. Marder ( marder@rci.rutgers.edu ) office hours = after class until 3:30 and by appointment Course purpose: to familiarize each student with the major works of English architecture, leading architects, keys ideas, and recent scholarship on the period. The goal is to prepare you for your visit to England. There will be weekly readings, quizzes, a short paper or two, a midterm exam, and a final exam. The final exam is 50% of the grade. The other requirements are equally divided in weight. Requirements: 1. You must come to class – attendance and absences noted. Two absences are allowed; after that your grade will suffer. 2. Each week you must review the images (available on line) and class lecture notes. 3. You need to do all assigned reading by the end of the week it was assigned. Assignments are made in class. 4. You must complete all of the exams and papers and quizzes to pass the course. Textbook:
