Ghost Seer: Final Study Guide 1. The role of illusion: The Sicilian is the illusionist. During the séance, the Sicilian makes sure that the right combination of words and images are conveyed to his audience in order for the illusion to take full effect. This séance is a scheme of the Sicilian’s that required masking truth and true identity. To the people in the pavilion, it appeared as if a connection to the supernatural was being made. The illusion is often mistaken for truth. 2. Chiaroscuro effects: We see repeated motifs of light and darkness because darkness in both figurative and literal.
