Psychology 152 – Class Notes – 10/28/09 LAST TIME: Variable Ratio Fixed Interval 5’ (5 minutes 5’) REMEMBER , there is NO time between states. The circle represents the time that passes in that state that the circle represents. EX. Circle 1 represents the amount of time that elapses in state 1. 5 minutes passes IN state 1. Whatever is to the right of the circle (or whatever is next) is what’s happening or how much time is passing in the circle to the left. The scalloping cumulative response figure applies to all non-human animals Up until 2 or 3 years old in the humans, the scalloping pattern is ALSO present o The dips in the cumulative recorder represents a “response” on the cumulative response graph AFTER 2 or 3 years old, the cumulative response graph will be more flat. o Perhaps this is due to the development of verbal behavior Variable Interval (VI 15’) 1. Once the time interval has expired, a state transition occurs from 1 into 2. 2. The first response after the time interval has elapsed will be reinforced
